DAVIS, CHARLES LEE
Champaign - Funeral services for Charles Lee Davis, 46, Champaign will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Jericho Missionary Baptist Church, Urbana. The Rev. Timothy Menefield will officiate. Burial will be in Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City. Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Friday at Twin City Memorial Chapel, Champaign. Mr. Davis died at 1:20 a.m. Sunday 5-6-2001 at home. He was born 12-18-1954 in Gibson City, a son of Elson H. and Zora N. Vins Davis. He married Audrey Sykes on 5-27-1995 in Champaign and she survives. Also surviving are two sons, Lawrence Davis and Mikel Walker, both of Champaign; four sisters, Ora Nell Stewart of Champaign, Mollie Davis of Chicago, Betty Kent of Urbana and Alma Day of Gibson City; two brothers, Alexander Bens of Chicago and Willie Davis of Champaign; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers. Mr. Davis served in the Army. He was a mechanic for the Union Pacific Railroad.

LaVerna E. Remley Davis, 95 of Gibson City died Monday 4-27-1992 at Gibson Community Hospital, Gibson City. Funeral services will be Thursday at Lamb Funeral Home, Gibson City, with the Rev. Williams and the Rev. Patrick Cox officiating; Burial will be in Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City. Mrs. Davis was born 4-16-1897 in Gibson City, a daughter of Charles W. and Ella Riley Riblet. She married Maple A. Remley 1-20-1914 at Gibson City. He died 9-17-1967. She later married Roy M. Davis who preceded her in death on 5-20-1977. Survivors include two step-sons, Dr. Theodore Davis and Marion Davis, a step-daughter, Beth Davis of Springfield, MO; two granddaughters, two great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and several step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son and two sisters. Mrs. Davis was a resident of the Gibson City area for all of her life. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Gibson City.

Davis, 62, of Strawn, formerly of Gibson City, all died instantly when the 1982 Enstrom helicopter, owned and piloted by Baillie, struck a fertilizer truck, flipped and smashed into the ground about 11 a.m. Monday 11-11-1996.

DeLONG-CURRY, MARY BALL
Graveside services for Mary E. Ball DeLong-Curry, 88, of Port Charlotte, Fla., will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Hope Cemetery, Foosland. The Rev. Stanley W. DeLong will officiate. Mrs. DeLong-Curry died Monday 4-28-2003 in Port Charlotte, Fla. She married Bruce M. DeLong in Foosland. He died in June 1982. She married William Curry. He died in 1995. Survivors include a son, the Rev. Stanley W. DeLong of San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Elizabeth Deriso of Arcadia, Fla.; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandchild. Mrs. DeLong-Curry grew up in Foosland. She and her husband, Mr.DeLong, built and managed the Del Rancho Motel on the south side of Gibson City in the 1950's. Upon her retirement as secretary at the Krannert Art Museum at the University of Illinois, they moved to Arcadia, Fla. She moved from Arcadia to a retirement facility in Port Charlotte upon the death of Mr. Curry in 1995.

Private graveside services will be Wednesday June 26 at Drummer Twp Cemetery in Gibson City, with the Reverend Randall Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Drummer Twp Cemetery. There was no visitation. Lamb Funeral Home in Gibson City was in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Dickerman was born 5-7-1900 at Gibson City a daughter of Charles B. and Celia Higdon Miller. She married Loyal Dickerman on 7-11-1953 at Gibson City. He preceded her in death on 5-17-1978. Survivors include a niece, Marjorie Miller Hess of Columbus, Ohio and two stepgrandsons, Kenneth and Lee Wiggins of Pekin and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Charles. Mrs. Dickerman taught in both Gibson City and Elliott schools all of her adult life. She earned a bachelor's degree in education from Illinois State Normal University and a master's degree in education from the University of Illinois. Mrs. Dickerman was a member of the Elliott United Methodist Church and then the Gibson City United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Ford County Retired Teachers Association. Memorials may be made to the Gibson City United Methodist Church.

DILLON, FRANCES E. "SANNIE" (PEARSON)
Frances E. "Sannie" Dillon, 86, of Melvin, died at 8:49 p.m. Tuesday 3-11-2003 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Friday at Knapp-Miller Funeral Home, Paxton, the Rev. Randy Surey officiating. Burial was in Glen Cemetery, Paxton. Mrs. Dillon was born 6-30-1916 in Paxton, a daughter of Emil and Olivia Saldeen Pearson. She married Donald L. Dillon 2-3-1939 in Paxton. He survives in Melvin. Also surviving are one son, Dean (Lisa) Dillon of Melvin; two grandchildren, Donald E. Dillon of Chicago and Dayle E. Dillon of Melvin; one sister, Marian Maulding of Paxton and many nieces and nephews. She was a member of Evangelical Covenant Church of Paxton, the Friendly Hour Club and the Covenant Church Fireside. Mrs. Dillon volunteered to leave school in the 10th grade to work in the uncle's bakery in Chicago during the Great Depression. She brought the money she earned back home for bank payments and coal for her parents' farm since the grasshoppers had destroyed the crops that past summer. She worked there for two years and turned down a chance to own part of the bakery. She returned to the farm since her brother left home and helped her father farm. She then went to work for the local canning factory. Mrs. Dillon met her husband at the canning factory. They adoped their only son, Dean, in 1948. She helped her husband farm 420 acres until he retired in 1984. She was widely known for her Swedish pastries and dishes such as spritz cookies, potatus cairve, swet pudding and oosta kaka. She also loved the quarter horses that were bred by her family. She was a breeder of show horses such as American Royal winner, Impressive Tad. Pallbearers were Donald Dillon, Mark Maulding, Kent Maulding, Tom Henson, Alan Maulding, Darrel Abrahamson, Wayne Ritzma and Terry Hinshaw. DIPPEL, DWIGHT
Hemet, CA: Dwight "Bud" Dippel, 87, of Hemet, Calif., a former farmer in the Paxton and Ash Grove areas, died at his home Thursday 10-23-2003. Burial will be at Riverside National Cemetery in California. He served in the US Army in WWII for 1-1/2 years in the Pacific area. On his return, he married the former Thelma Steinmann of Buckley on 7-22-1945. She died 5-18-1996. Dippel is survived by two sons, Dennis Dippel of Hemet, CA., and Tim of Costa Mesa, Calif. and other relatives. Alice Nelson of Elliott is a sister-in-law.

Bernie Doman, age 80 of Gibson City, died Friday 10-5-1990 at Ford County Nursing Home in Paxton. His funeral was held Monday at Lamb Funeral Home in Gibson City, with the Reverend Patrick W. Cox officiating. Burial was in Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City with military rites accorded by Lee Lowery American Legion Post No 568. Visitation was held Sunday at the funeral home with a Moose service conducted at 8 p.m. Pallbearers included Scott Riddle, Chris Riddle, Todd Riddle, Chuck Hendricks, Kenneth Hendricks, and Michael Sherman. Mr. Doman was born 4-8-1910 at Gibson City, a son of John E. and Clara H. Hinds Doman. He married Ruby Dewey at Gibson City. She died 4-26-1953. He later married Lola Ruth Riddle on 11-28-1953 at Gibson City and she survives. Other survivors include two stepsons, Duane Riddle of Danvers and Glenn Riddle of Gibson City; three step-daughters, Lorena Sherman of Gunnison, CO; and Ruth Ann Williams and Beverly Nelson both of Gibson City; two brothers, Don and Richard, both of Gibson City; a sister Imo Cross, Creve Coeur; 13 step-grandchildren; and 15 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers. Mr. Doman was a lifelong resident of Gibson City. He was a Marine Veteran of WWII. He was a member of Lee Lowery American Legion Post No 568 and the Gibson City Moose Lodge No. 2289. He was employed by the Gibson City Park District for 16 years, retiring in 1975. Mr. Doman owned and operated the Spot Café and the Coney Island years ago. He was employed as janitor at the Gibson City First Presbyterian Church for 30 years. He was a member of the Gibson City United Methodist Church.

Burial was in Drummer Twp Cemetery. There was no visitation. Lamb Funeral Home in Gibson City was in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Donner was born at Fisher. She married Ivin G. Donner. He died 3-26-1991. Survivors include two sisters, Ethleyn Huxtable of Gibson City and Dorothy Amsdan of Rantoul; one brother Earl Spicer of Oak Lawn and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters. Mrs. Donner was a member of the First Christian Church of Gibson City to which memorials may be made.

Earl R. Donner, age 80, of Gibson City, died Friday 2-23-1996 at Gibson Community Hospital Annex, Gibson City. Funeral services were Sunday at Lamb Funeral Home in Gibson City with the Reverend Philip N. Curran officiating; burial was in Drummer Twp Cemetery in Gibson City. Pallbearers included Sherman Nelson, Don Hoover, Dwain Parker, Chuck Jackson, Dick Cliff and Rick Carden. Mr. Donner was born 12-28-1915 at Gibson City a son of Edward W. and Margaret E. Kyle Donner. He married Verna B. Wright on 5-4-1935 at Paxton. Survivors include his wife, Verna B. Donner of Gibson City; one son, Harold Donner of Taylorville; three grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; one brother, Oren Donner of Carlinville; four sisters, Frances McMahon, Daisy Brownlee, Verna Farris and Velma Taylor, all of Gibson City. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and two sisters. A member of the First Christian Church of Gibson City, Mr. Donner was an associate member of the Elliott AmVets and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Taylorville. He was employed by CIPS for 33 years before retiring in 1977.

Ivin G. Donner, age 82, a lifelong resident of the Gibson City area and a retired state employee, died Tuesday, 3-26-1991 at his home after a long illness. His funeral was held Friday at Lamb Funeral Home in Gibson City with the Reverends June Moll and Thomas Condron officiating. Burial was in Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City with military rites by Lee Lowery American Legion Post 568. Pallbearers were Howard Kerchenfaut, George Lange, Lyle Kumler, Harley Briggs, Jerry Lynch and Bob Farris. Mr. Donner was born 9-4-1908 near Gibson City, a son of Edward W. and Margaret E. Kile Donner. He married Darlene M. Spicer on 7-21-1947 and she survives. Other survivors include two brothers, Oren of Carlinville and Earl of Gibson City; and four sisters, Daisy Brownlee, Frances McMahon, Verna Farris and Velma Taylor, all of Gibson City. Three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Mr. Donner was a Standard Oil Co. bulk truck driver in Gibson City for 10 years and was employed for 10 years by the Illinois Dept of Transportation. He retired in 1979. An Army veteran of WWII, he was a member of the Lee Lowery American Legion Post 568. Mr. Donner was a member and former deacon of the First Christian Church of Gibson City. He was a former member of Rantoul Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1496.
DOTY, JOHN M.
John M. Doty, 76, of Winter Park, Fla., formerly of Paxton, died at Evergreens Senior Healthcare, Greensboro, NC. Services were at 11 a.m. Saturday at Glen Cemetery, Paxton. Arrangements were by Knapp-Miller Funeral Home, Paxton (the obit does not list date of death - was in the Paxton Record Wednesday 3-26-2003) Mr. Doty married Nancy McCarty in December 1954 and she survives. Also surviving are a son, John Parker Doty of Mt. Dora, Fla., and a daughter, Cynthia Price of Maitland, Fla. After graduating in 1945 from Paxton High School, where he was class president, basketball team captain and football team member, he entered the U.S. Army and served during WWII. He then attended the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, where he studied engineering and joined Phi Beta Kappa fraternity. He later moved to central Florida. He had a long career in real estate. Upon retirement he returned to his farming roots by spending a portion of his time in the hills of southwestern Virginia raising cattle and growing hay. He was president and member of the Winter Park Rotary Club and officer and member of Winter Park Chamber of Commerce.

Gibson City - Gladys J. Dueringer, 87, of Gibson City died at 3:30 a.m. yesterday 5-29-1993 at the Covenant Medical Center, Urbana. A memorial service will be at 1 pm. Tuesday at United Methodist Church, Gibson City, the Revs. Patrick W. Cox and Wally Krech officiating. A graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City. Visitation will be from 5 - 8 p.m. Monday at Lamb Funeral Home, Gibson City. She was born 7-23-1905, near Guthrie, a daughter of Charles F. and Julia F. Miner Dueringer. Surviving is a sister, Julia Evelyn Dueringer, Gibson City. She was preceded in death by a brother. Miss Dueringer was a resident of Gibson City since 1950. She attended Miner School and later graduated from Drummer Twp High School, Gibson City. She taught at Miner School until 1924, then entered Northwestern University, Evanston. In 1926, she transferred to University of Illinois and graduated in 1928 with a bachelor's degree in liberal arts. She taught at Zion for six years and then Cothern School for a semester. Miss Dueringer taught high school in Melvin for 12 years and was school librarian and the Latin teacher for 18 years at Gibson Community High School, retiring in 1967. She earned her master's degree at U of I and was a member of the honorary education fraternity Kappa Delta Pi. She also was a member of the United Methodist Church, Gibson City; the Gibson City Woman's Club; Gibson Community Hospital Auxiliary; United Methodist Women; the Daughters of the American Revolution; and the Ford County Farm Bureau. Memorials may be made to her church or Cunningham Children's Home, Urbana.

Miss Dueringer graduated from the University of Illinois in 1928. She received a master's degree in 1947. She taught school in Mt. Zion, Sullivan High School, Drummer Twp High School and was the school librarian at Clinton High School. She then returned to Gibson City and was the school librarian at the junior high school, retiring in 1965. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Gibson Area Hospital Auxiliary, the DAR, and the Ford County Farm Bureau. Joel Catlin officiating. Visitation will be Thursday at Lamb Funeral Home with an Eastern Star service at 8 p.m.; burial will be in the Melvin Cemetery. Mrs. Dueringer was born 3-25-1916 at Melvin, Il., a daughter of Carroll B. and Eva Mae Leggate Phillips. She married Lowell A. Dueringer 4-12-1936 at Melvin; he died 6-26-1980. Surviving are two sons, Larry Dueringer, Melvin, and Richard Dueringer, Andover, Kansas; 3 daughters, Eleanor Bowen, Mattoon, Il. Carol Steinman, Gibson City; and Sharon Niksch, Pana, Il.; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandson. She was a 63 year member of the Eastern Star Drummer Chapter; a member of the Melvin Women's Club; member of the United Methodist Women; Past member of Illinois Homemaker Extension Federation; Circle of Friends; and Farm Bureau Womens Committee. Mrs. Dueringer lived in Melvin all of her life. Active pallbearers are David Bowen, Michael Dueringer, Kent Steinman, Steven Bowen, Bruce Steinman, Kevin Bowen, Carl Dueringer, Eric Niksch and Andrew Dueringer.

His funeral was conducted Friday at First Presbyterian Church, Gibson City with the Reverend Laurence Sunkel officiating. Burial was in Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City where military graveside rites were accorded by Lee Lowery American Legion Post 568 Gibson City. A Masonic service was held at 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Pallbearers were Harold Johnson, Henry Brinkman, Donald Jensen, Don Rickey, Harold Medler and Dennis Halcomb. Mr. Duggins was born 3-16-1924 in Dunlap, a son of Wilbur and Myrtle Bouton Duggins. He married Wilma Cook 5-27-1945 in Bloomington and she survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Nancy Olivero, Gibson City; one sister, Doris Frank of Morton; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Duggins was a resident of Gibson City for 38 years. He worked for Nickel Plate Railroad for 23 years and owned and operated Duggins Electric in Gibson City for more than 25 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Gibson City, and was a former trustee of the church. A WWII veteran, he was a former member of Lee Lowery American Legion Post 568, Gibson City.
